Joni Mitchell

Little Green

This is a song about a child Joni had when she was a struggling singer in Toronto. She was not married and in those days, it was not okay for women to have children if they were single. Joni put the baby up for adoption. The song is very beautiful, and very sad. It's very personal.

Here is a clip from a documentary about Joni Mitchell. It is about her finding the daughter she put up for adoption.

This is her album "Blue". This is the album that "Little Green" comes from. This is classic Joni Mitchell.

This is "The Hissing of Summer Lawns". Here she is moving more towards Jazz.

This is one of Joni Mitchell's more well-known songs.

Big Yellow Taxi

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel *, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum *
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Hey farmer farmer
Put away that DDT * now
Give me spots on my apples
But leave me the birds and the bees
Please!

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
